Your Life Skills and Transition students will love learning about building work related skills using this digital learning journey to introduce them to the world of work and hospitality workplaces. The  activities help students prepare for working in hospitality, gaining confidence in coffee cart programs at school or finding out about work related skills such as:
greeting a customer
cleaning as you work
what to do with a phone at work
filling in a timesheet

What happens in the journey?
Come inside and learn along with Lian, a new worker. Lian has just begun at Reddles and she is learning what she needs to do in her first shift at the coffee shop. She needs to learn about how to greet a customer, keep her work area clean and tidy, make a coffee, take a customer order, work safely and understand what to do on her meal breaks....there is a lot to learn for a new worker when they first begin in a workplace!
 
Like Lian, many young people begin working in a hospitality business such as a coffee shop. They need to know all about the basic work tasks which are required, but also how to manage those challenging areas which are often assumed knowledge - like what to do with your phone when you are working, and why a uniform is important.
The slideshow introduces students to the world of work through the character of Lian, along with her co-workers Afia (the manager) and Su (a barista). The interactive slideshow encourages students to follow questions which interest them and find out the answers. The slideshow can also be used by a teacher or trainer to guide students through workplace safety, communication, work tasks and employability skills in a workplace.
