Digital skills

Updated: Mar 5, 2019

Young people often don't consider that the skills they use every day when they use digital media can be the same skills that help them find and keep work.

Stay connected

Link with others through social media so you are the first to know about job opportunities. Often friends and family come across jobs that are advertised in a window, on a group or through contact with others in their circle. Put the word out that you are looking for employment, and be sure to give friends and family some suggestions about the sort of work you are looking for.

Teach others

Many employers don't have great digital skills - often they are too busy running their own businesses to have time to spend on learning something new as well. Make yourself into an instant expert when it comes to digital skills so that your boss knows you are the person who can solve digital problems, find solutions and teach others in the workplace how to do the same. You will be amazed at how quickly your ability to troubleshoot a social media problem or jazz up a business profile and blog will see you becoming the workplace 'go to' person!
